Advanced Training in Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastroenterology offers three FRACP-accredited advanced training positions in gastroenterology, including 1st core training and 2nd core training years. Our trainees benefit from supervised clinical duties across a variety of settings, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience.

  • Inpatient Unit Management: Gain hands-on experience managing a busy inpatient unit covering all gastroenterology disciplines.
  • Consultation Services: Provide consultation for referrals from various units within St. Vincent’s Hospital.
  • Outpatient Clinics: Rotate through major specialist clinics, managing a wide range of gastroenterological conditions.
  • Endoscopy Training: Receive general endoscopy training under the supervision of CONJOINT-accredited gastroenterologists.

As a trainee, you’ll be immersed in a robust educational environment, with numerous opportunities for both clinical and research development:

  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings, complex case conferences, and grand rounds.
  • Present at journal clubs and the gastrointestinal combined case conference.
  • Participate in audits and contribute to departmental initiatives.
  • Engage in research projects, including clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies.
